In the current times, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the changes happening around us. Amidst all this, supporting initiatives that strive to make the world a better place can bring us hope and optimism for the future.
One such initiative is regenerative farming which involves getting back to the basics and adopting farming practices that were prevalent in the past, where the focus was on producing healthy food rather than maximizing profits. Regenerative farming aims to work in harmony with nature to create a sustainable farming system, and it is not a new concept- Indigenous communities have been practicing this for thousands of years.
Livestock grazing is an essential component, and when done properly, it can contribute to increased water retention, healthier pastureland, and plant and insect biodiversity.
Before industrial agriculture became a thing, a farmer who didn’t farm in harmony with nature just wasn’t doing it right. Working in tandem with the land so that the land fosters the animals and the animals foster the land was just smart farming. Nowadays, regenerative farming is seen as an emerging and eco-conscious way to farm - back then, it was just the way things were done.
By supporting regenerative agriculture, we are reducing the negative impact of farming and fostering a positive relationship with the land, leading to smaller and more local farming operations who aim to give back to the land as much as they take from it.
